a HIGHER standard for hair care
Barebone began with a simple question:
If we care about the quality of the food we eat, the water we drink, and the products we bring into our homes, why wouldn't we apply that same level of consideration to the products we use on our hair and scalp?
The products we use most consistently often have the greatest influence on our daily lives. We believed hair care should be held to the same level of care we apply elsewhere in our lives.
As we learned more about hair care formulations, we began noticing a gap between what many products promised and what they were actually made of.
Too often, hair care was built around trends, fragrance, and long ingredient lists rather than the quality, purpose, and performance of the ingredients themselves.
We believed there was a better way.
That belief became the foundation of Barebone.
Our Discovery

As we learned more about hair health, we kept returning to one idea: healthy hair begins with the scalp.
The scalp is the environment from which hair grows. Its condition can influence how hair looks, feels, and behaves over time, making scalp care an essential part of any long-term hair care routine.
We also learned that the quality of an oil extends far beyond the label.
The quality of an oil depends on how it is sourced, extracted, stored, and formulated. Two products may contain similar ingredients on paper, yet perform very differently in practice.
Our Approach
WHY WE CHOSE BOTANICAL OILS
As we evaluated different approaches to hair care, we repeatedly found ourselves returning to botanical oils.
Many botanical oils naturally contain fatty acids, antioxidants, and nutrients that help condition the scalp, support the hair, and improve its overall appearance over time.
What drew us to botanical oils was their ability to support both scalp health and overall hair quality through naturally occurring compounds found within the plants themselves.
When carefully selected and thoughtfully formulated, they can deliver meaningful benefits without relying on unnecessary additives or overly complicated formulas.
Rather than creating products with the longest ingredient lists, we focused on creating formulas where every ingredient serves a purpose.

Today, Barebone formulates botanical hair growth oils, hair oils, and beard oils in Portland, Oregon.
Built on the belief that better hair care begins with better ingredients, we use certified organic botanicals and craft our products in small batches with a focus on quality, consistency, and long-term hair health.
What began as a search for better hair care ultimately became something more.
We came to appreciate that caring for your hair is also an opportunity to slow down, be present, and invest in yourself. A few minutes each day may seem small, but the habits we practice consistently often have the greatest impact.
